The American Bobtail is a medium to large, naturally occurring short-tailed cat. Many of these original
cats were raised in feral conditions and were products of natural selection. Because of this and the environment they
were surrounded by, the survival skills of the American Bobtail made it a hearty breed and highly intelligent.
The Bobtail displays the look of an alert, athletic, well-muscled animal with the appearance of great power.
The body is slightly longer than the legs are tall and rectangular in stance.
The tails can vary in length from 1" up to the length of the hock, but not to extend past the hock. When
the cat is alert, the tail should be clearly visible above the back.
The Amercian Bobtail is a slow maturing breed reaching full maturity at 2-3 years with the males being heavily built
while the females may be smaller built and a bit more feminine in appearance. It is not unheard of for the males to
reach up to 20 lbs while the female will range around 11-14 lbs.
The breed is also noted for an exceptional disposition and adapatability to its surroundings.
Often known for their dog-like personalities, the American Bobtails often learn quickly to come when called by name,
love to play fetch for hours and never forget, they will always take time out for petting, being loved on and a
good cuddle.
